IMPORTANT FOR ALL INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS (NON-UK/ NON-EU): UK Border Agency Tier -4 Student Census Point

This message only applies to those who are non-UK and non-EU students with a Tier 4 student visa. All of you would probably have received an email from the registry about the Census point a while back, but we at the ISC thought it would be good to remind everyone anyway.

The purpose of the Census is so that the university maintains its Highly Trusted Sponsor status as a sponsor of Tier 4 students with the UK Border Agency. The consequence of you not doing the Census will result in you being withdrawn from the university and subsequent deportation.

Basically, what you have to do:

1) Ensure that you are already fully matriculated in the university:

You can check this by going to MyEd -> Studies -> Program of study box should say whether you're registered and matriculated. This is an important first step as your student visa will be invalidated if the University does not confirm your attendance by 5 weeks after the start date.

More info about matriculation:
www.ed.ac.uk/schools-departments/registry/matric
www.ed.ac.uk/schools-departments/registry/matric/passports

2) You MUST report in person...:

Undergraduate students:
must report to the designated places (will be detailed below) during Week 6 of Semester 1 (24-28 October 2011) and you will also have to report again during either Week 5 (13-17 February 2012) or (20-24 February of 2012) of Semester 2 (we will confirm closer to the date).

Postgraduate students:
must report to the designated places (will be detailed below) during Week 6 of Semester 1 (24-28 October 2011) and you will also have to report again during either Week 5 (13-17 February 2012) or (20-24 February of 2012) of Semester 2 (we will confirm closer to the date) AND during the summer (23-27 July 2012) to confirm your attendance again.

DESIGNATED PLACES TO REPORT:

Census Point 1: 2011/12 Semester 1 Week 6 (24-28 October 2011)

24,25,26,27,28 October 2011 (9.30am-4.30pm) at Academic Registry, Old College or
27 and 28 October 2011 2011 (10am-4pm) at King's Buildings, Room 6324, James Clark Maxwell Building or
25 October 2011 (10am-4pm) at Little France, Chancellor's Building, Common Room, Ground Floor or
26 October 2011 (11am-2pm) at Easter Bush Room 1.24

Census Point 2: 2011/12 Semester 2 Week 5 (13-17 February 2012)

13,14,15,16,17 February 2012 (9.30am-4.30pm) at Academic Registry, Old College or
13 and 16 February 2012 (10am-4pm) King's Buildings, Room 6203 James Clark Maxwell Building or
14 Feb 2012 (10am-4pm) at Little France, Chancellor's Building Board
Room, 2nd Floor, or Common Room, Ground Floor or
15 Feb 2012 (11am-2pm) Easter Bush room 1.24

Census Point 3: 2011/12 Postgraduates only: 23-27 July 2012

23,24,25,26,27 July 2012 (9.30am-4.30pm) at Academic Registry, Old College or
25 and 27 July 2012 (10am-4pm) King's Buildings, Lecture Room A, Peter
Wilson Building

Locations:
Old College www.ed.ac.uk/maps/buildings/old-college
James Clerk Maxwell Building www.ed.ac.uk/maps/buildings/james-clerk-maxwell-building
Peter Wilson Building www.ed.ac.uk/maps/buildings/peter-wilson-building
Little France, Chancellor's Building www.ed.ac.uk/maps/buildings/chancellors-building
Easter Bush www.ed.ac.uk/maps/buildings/dick-vet-easter-bush

3) Remember to take with you

a) University of Edinburgh student card

b) Passport and visa

c) Biometric card (if you have one)

As mentioned before, the Census is crucial as you will be withdrawn from the University and removed from the UK if you fail to do the Census. If your passport lasts more than 6 months, you will have 60 days to leave the UK if you fail to do the Census.

If you cannot attend:

Due to illness, fieldwork, research work, placement etc: you must inform the Academic Registry: registry@ed.ac.uk.
If you are ill, you must provide a medical certificate and you must report as soon as possible in person to the Academic Registry.

If you have interrupted your studies, make sure you are listed as such on MyEd as you are not expected to attend the Census.
